Abstract

This article examines the relationship between repentance (metanoia), faith (pistis), and baptism (baptisma) within the soteriological framework of the Book of Acts by focusing on the syntactical structure and narrative variability that are often oversimplified in systematic theological interpretations. The main problem addressed is the tendency to construct a linear and normative model of salvation, particularly based on Acts 2:38, without fully considering its grammatical and narrative complexity. This study employs a qualitative method using a narrative-exegetical approach that integrates Greek syntactical analysis—especially the use of imperative forms, the aorist tense, the preposition eis, and the so-called divine passive—with broader literary and theological context. The findings demonstrate that Acts 2:38 does not establish a fixed causal relationship between repentance, baptism, and forgiveness, but instead reflects syntactical ambiguity and theological openness. Furthermore, the broader narrative of Acts presents diverse patterns in the relationship between baptism and the Holy Spirit, indicating that soteriological experience operates beyond rigid liturgical or sequential structures. These results affirm that Luke’s soteriology is inherently narrative, dynamic, and multidimensional, resisting reduction into a single doctrinal formula. This study contributes to biblical and systematic theology by proposing that an integrative-narrative approach provides a more adequate framework for interpreting salvation in Acts than reductionist or purely systematic models.
