Abstract

Disability has long been framed within Christian theology through deficit-oriented models that treat physical and cognitive differences as conditions requiring correction, healing, or pity. These frameworks have contributed to the marginalization of persons with disabilities within ecclesial communities, despite the church's mandate to embody radical hospitality. This article aims to construct a theological framework based on Deborah Beth Creamer's theology of limits, which repositions limitation as an essential and unsurprising aspect of human existence rather than a deficiency to be overcome. This study employs a qualitative approach through critical textual analysis of Creamer's major works, supplemented by engagement with contemporary disability theology scholarship. The analysis demonstrates that Creamer's theology of limits offers a constructive paradigm that affirms limitation as intrinsic to created goodness, reinterprets the incarnation as divine solidarity with finite existence, and provides theological foundations for inclusive ecclesiology. The theology of limits challenges deficit-based anthropologies and calls the church to embrace interdependence, accessibility, and the full participation of persons with disabilities as constitutive of authentic Christian community. This article contributes to disability theology and contextual theology by offering a synthesized framework that connects Creamer's constructive proposal with practical implications for church inclusion.
