Peer Review Process
-
Submission of Manuscript: Authors submit their manuscript to the journal. This is usually done through an online submission system. The manuscript should adhere to the journal's submission guidelines, including formatting, length, and style.
-
Initial Screening: The editorial staff or the editor-in-chief conducts an initial screening to ensure that the submission meets the basic requirements of the journal, such as scope, relevance, and quality. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without peer review.
-
Assignment to Reviewers: If the manuscript passes the initial screening, the editor assigns it to several (typically 2-3) independent experts in the field for peer review. These reviewers are usually scholars or practitioners with expertise in the subject matter of the manuscript.
-
Blind or Double-Blind Review: Most educational technology and innovative learning journals use a blind or double-blind review process. In a single-blind review, the reviewers know the identity of the authors, but the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers. In a double-blind review, both parties' identities are concealed.
-
Review Process: Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on various criteria such as originality, validity, significance, methodology, clarity of expression, and relevance to the field. They provide comments, criticisms, and recommendations (accept as is, accept with minor/major revisions, or reject).
-
Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers’ feedback, the editor-in-chief or handling editor makes a decision regarding the manuscript. If revisions are required, the authors may be asked to revise and resubmit their manuscript.
-
Revision and Re-evaluation: If the authors resubmit a revised manuscript, it may undergo another round of review. The process of revision and re-evaluation can occur multiple times.
-
Final Decision and Publication: Once the manuscript meets the journal's standards, the final decision to accept the manuscript for publication is made. After acceptance, the manuscript goes through final editing and formatting before publication.
