THE ROLE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN TRANSFORMING TEFL PRACTICES: A CASE STUDY OF DIGITAL MEDIA INTEGRATION IN SECONDARY EDUCATION

This study aims to explore the role of educational technology in transforming Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) practices through the integration of digital media in secondary education. The rapid advancement of digital technologies has reshaped instructional methods, enabling more interactive and student-centered learning environments. This research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design conducted at SMPN 3 Polongbangkeng Utara, Indonesia. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, questionnaires, and classroom observations. The findings indicate that the integration of digital media significantly improves students’ English proficiency, particularly in reading, writing, and vocabulary skills. Students who engaged with digital tools such as videos, interactive platforms, and online exercises demonstrated higher achievement compared to those using traditional methods. Additionally, digital media enhanced student motivation, engagement, and participation in classroom activities. However, challenges such as limited technological infrastructure and varying levels of digital literacy were identified. Despite these constraints, educational technology remains a powerful tool for transforming TEFL practices. This study concludes that digital media integration can effectively support language learning outcomes when supported by appropriate infrastructure and teacher competence.
