This study aims to determine the effect of using local wisdom–based teaching materials on the storytelling ability of sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 58 Banda Aceh. The teaching materials used were illustrated storybooks featuring Acehnese folktales, namely Loyang Koro and Putri Pukes. This study employed an experimental method with a One Group Pre-test Post-test design. The research subjects consisted of 17 students. Data were collected through storytelling ability tests conducted before (pre-test) and after the treatment (post-test). The implemented teaching materials were designed using simple language, a well-structured storyline, and engaging illustrations to help students understand the content and express it orally. The analysis results using a paired sample t-test showed a calculated t-value of -10.659 with a degree of freedom of 16 and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These results indicate a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. The findings of this study demonstrate that the use of local wisdom–based teaching materials is effective in improving students’ storytelling ability while also instilling cultural values. Therefore, teachers are recommended to utilize local wisdom–based teaching materials in the learning process. Schools are expected to support the development of local teaching materials, students are encouraged to be more active and confident in storytelling, and future researchers may expand similar studies with broader scopes and integration of other forms of local wisdom.
