ABSTRACT
Ostrinia furnacalis Geunee (Lepidoptera: Pyrlidae) is a major pest on the corn crops. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of two types insecticides in which to reduce the percentage of the hoist holes causing by O. Furnacalis. This research was conducted in Tino Village, Taroang Subdistrict, Jeneponto, South Sulawesi Province. This study used corn seed varieties Bima 15 Sayang by using three treatments, Carbofuran (10gr / m 2), Fipronil (10gr / m 2) and Control. The observations began at the age of 27 days after planting (DAP) to 84DAP with the intervals of 7 days. Observations were carried out systematically regarding to the total calculation of holes in corn plants and the weight of corn seeds as well. The results experienced an average of the hoist hole by O. Furnaclais found in 35DAP on each treatment, with the average number of holes has increased in the age of 49 to 63 DAP. In these three treatments, the highest number of hoist hole is fipronil (10gr / m 2), control, and the lowest in the treatment of carbofuran (10gr / m 2) respectively. After the statistical test results and Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test, it did not show any significant difference in each treatment.
